Family Friday's in the Library
You have been invited to join your child and their class in our school library.
During this 25 minute slot, you can help your child and their friends chose their new library book which you can read and enjoy together at home. You will get a chance to discover the wide range of stories and texts we have available and share the excitement of reading.
At Beam, we promote reading for enjoyment and we are urging all families to help their children discover the school library’s wonderful mix of inspiring books and create reading memories together.
We are inviting the whole family to join us – parents, carers, grandparents, younger siblings etc. Please look at the attached timetable to find your child’s library time. Fill in the form below and return to your child’s teacher if you can join us.
On the Friday, you will be met at the school office and led to our library – please be on time as the library will be used by other classes after this session.

So far, we have had Mrs Mason’s group and Year 3 bring their families to the library and it has been a great experience.
It was heartwarming to see and hear parents and children chose and talk about books with such passion. And to see parents sharing books with their own children and others in the class.
Bug Club and Reading at Home
The school recommends that the children are reading at home at least 3-5 times per week. Setting aside 20 minutes to introduce, read and reflect will develop both reading and comprehension skills.
Reading records are used as a link between school and home to support and monitor reading. We value comments made by parents/carers and encourage the use of reading records to both celebrate successes and raise any issues related to their child’s reading skills. If you are reading on bug club, we kindly ask that you still record in your reading diary so we can keep track of the days of which your child has been reading.

World Book Day - Tuesday 6th March 2018
On Thursday 1st March 2018, the world celebrated World Book Day. A chance to dress up as your favorite book or comic character and celebrate with your peers.
Unfortunately, we were closed on the official World Book Day due to hazardous weather. But this did not stop us. We were happy to reschedule and on Tuesday 6th March, Beam County Primary School was filled with colour and positivity towards reading.
We had some wonderful costumes and in Mr Wilson’s class, we had 5 Willy Wonka’s. Unfortunately, they had no chocolate to share. But we had a wonderful day talking about our favorite characters and books and we look forward to see what different characters we see in the future.
British Library Trip - 11th June 2018
On Monday 11th June, seven pupils were fortunate to go to the British Library to look at the Treasures of their collection and create their own books.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to read all 80 million books but hopefully we can go back during the Summer Holidays to pick up where we left off!
